About Collie

Collie has a long history of industrial development, a skilled workforce and a variety of service providers, making it well-placed to service clean energy operations in the future.

New industries and projects
Collie is well positioned to capitalise on the net zero transition. With a skilled workforce and the robust infrastructure, the region is prepared to support emerging industries like green manufacturing, minerals processing, and clean energy. These developments aim to create long-term, sustainable jobs.
The Authority is working with the Western Australian Government, local communities, and industry stakeholders to support workers, their families and the broader community as Collie transitions from coal-related industries to net zero opportunities.
Energy Storage
Collie has extensive electricity transmission infrastructure connecting it to the rest of the South West Interconnected System (SWIS). This makes Collie the ideal location for big batteries to support Western Australia’s clean energy transition as it gathers pace.
The SWIS provides power to more than 2.3 million people in Western Australia across a 7,600 kilometre transmission system. Battery energy storage systems allow bulk energy transfer, soaking up solar power during the day when energy demand is low and dispatching it into the SWIS to support the network during peak evening demand.
