The public submissions process for the Community of Interest (COI) for Collie Power Station and Muja Power Station has now concluded. Submissions are available on our consultation hub

Collie is located 200 km south-west of Perth, Western Australia. It is home to Collie Power Station – owned by Synergy Energy and operated by SPIE Global Services Energy – and Muja Power Station – owned and operated by Synergy Energy. Collie Power Station is scheduled to close on 1 October 2027. Muja Power Station is scheduled to close on 1 October 2029.

The Net Zero Economy Authority (NZEA) thanks all those involved in the consultation process and those who made a submission. The contributions will help inform our CEO on whether to apply to the Fair Work Commission (FWC) to formally establish the Energy Industry Jobs Plan (EIJP) for the closures.

As part of our consultation process, the NZEA visited Collie in early May to meet with a broad range of stakeholders. This included:

  • state and local government
  • supply chain businesses
  • unions, community groups
  • local employers
  • regional industry advocacy groups.

We will continue to work closely with our stakeholders and our partners to support affected workers and businesses.

Next Steps

If our CEO decides it would be reasonable to implement the EIJP for one or both of the closures, they will apply to the FWC for a determination. This application will name employers the CEO believes should be specified for inclusion.

The FWC will then independently conduct its process to determine if the EIJP should be formally established and which employers should be specified. The FWC process also provides an opportunity for affected parties to be heard.

If the FWC makes a determination to formally establish the EIJP for a closure, it places obligations on employers specified in the determination to provide transition supports to its employees if requested. These supports can include access to training, career planning and financial advice.

If you have any further questions about the EIJP or the consultation process, please contact EIJP@pmc.gov.au
