Connecting local suppliers to Australia’s energy future

Three people in high-vis safety gear look at a plan in front of construction equipment

The Net Zero Economy Authority (NZEA) is working with Hunter communities to highlight local suppliers and boost local jobs. The NZEA has engaged the Industry Capability Network (ICN) to develop a Transmission Infrastructure Supplier Showcase. This work has been done in partnership with EnergyCo and the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD).

ICN interviewed 1,000 suppliers to help develop the showcase.

This new showcase helps local businesses in the Hunter and Central Coast connect with major transmission projects so they can compete for work, create jobs and benefit from the energy transmission.

This puts a spotlight on local businesses for significant and major energy and transmission projects – keeping this work local.

Engineering and fabrication company Alfabs, based in Kurri Kurri, is one of many local businesses who have registered to be part of the Hunter and Central Coast showcase.

Alfabs Development Manager David West said they signed up to the showcase to support the transmission sector. This was given the company’s capabilities in structural steel, fabrication, machining and site installation, all needed for major transmission projects.

‘Alfabs has completed major infrastructure works throughout the Hunter region, including supplying and installing major structural steel packages for the Newcastle Interchange and Victoria Street Station projects.

‘As a Hunter Valley-based business employing more than 240 people across construction and manufacturing disciplines, we have a proud history of supporting local industry and regional employment.

‘We want to continue working on these major projects in our local region and believe the showcase is a great way for local suppliers to be seen and contracted to the work.’

By using the showcase to engage local suppliers, the broader Hunter and Central Coast economies can benefit from the transmission rollout.
