We pay our respects to elders past and present, and we honour their strength, resilience, and leadership in preserving and sharing their cultural knowledge. We recognise the traditional owners' continuing connection to the Pilbara and its land and waters which have been cared for over countless generations. We acknowledge their ongoing contributions to the social, cultural, and economic fabric of the Pilbara.

About the Pilbara

The Pilbara region is a key economic hub for Western Australia, as it contributes nearly 15% of the state’s total economic output.

The Pilbara region has strong existing industry and infrastructure and a highly compatible workforce. These factors encourage clean energy investments and will assist the region to transition to a clean energy and green-industry hub.

New industries & projects

The Pilbara has an industrial history in iron ore, natural gas and minerals, but also strong renewable energy resources. The net zero transition is an opportunity to decarbonise existing industry and harness the region’s renewable energy potential for new industry.

Plans are underway to help the Pilbara transition. The Western Australian Government's Pilbara Energy Transition (PET) Plan emphasises the importance of investment in common-use transmission infrastructure to enable access to renewable energy sources.

The Net Zero Economy Authority is facilitating public and private investment in net zero opportunities that will transform the Pilbara region.
