Energy Industry Jobs Plan Review tabled in Parliament
Statement attributed to David Shankey, CEO, Net Zero Economy Authority
The Energy Industry Jobs Plan Review, led by Emeritus Professor Roy Green AM, has today been tabled in Parliament.
The Net Zero Economy Authority (NZEA) welcomes the finding that the Energy Industry Jobs Plan (EIJP) is operating broadly as Parliament intended. This reinforces the importance of the EIJP in supporting workers and communities affected by power station closures and embedding structured transition planning well ahead of change.
The Review contains 12 recommendations and 4 additional actions.
The Authority and the Board have accepted the recommendations related to its functions and responsibilities. We are 12 months into the administration of new legislation, and our processes are continuing to mature and improve over time. We welcome recommendations that will improve how we conduct our business and engage with stakeholders.
These recommendations provide a constructive pathway to enhance the EIJP’s effectiveness and ensure it remains responsive to the needs of the workers it is designed to support.
The Authority will continue to work closely with the NZEA Board and the Senator the Hon Tim Ayres, Minister for Industry and Innovation and the Minister for Science in the consideration of the report’s recommendations.
The Authority acknowledges and thanks Emeritus Professor Roy Green AM for his considered work, developed through significant consultation with a wide range of stakeholders. We also appreciate the time, expertise and considered contributions of all those who participated in the Review process. Their insights and perspectives have been critical to ensuring the Review reflects the experiences of workers, industry, unions, and communities.
