Economic Reform Roundtable Submission
The Net Zero Economy Authority (the Authority) has drawn on its own work and extensive engagement with stakeholders to identify actions the Government could consider as part of the Economic Reform roundtable in August 2025.
The Authority’s submission emphasises that the transition provides a one-time opportunity to transform Australia’s regions and economy by building on existing capacity and investing in new industries. It goes on to highlight that while significant efforts are being made through government funding vehicles and programs, they are not well targeted at supporting the net zero transition.
The submission seeks to highlight that funding mechanisms are piecemeal, do not support place-based efforts, work almost exclusively on a project-by-project basis and lack transparency around their effectiveness and impact. The submission highlights a number of actions that Government may wish to consider in the context of discussion about economic reform and productivity.
