Waratah Super Battery
The NSW Government (EnergyCo) and Akayasha Energy are currently supporting the construction of the Waratah Super Battery south of Newcastle near Doyalson. The battery will support more reliable and greener electricity while stimulating up to $1 billion in private investment into new energy storage and associated network augmentations.
The project is a System Integrity Protection Scheme designed to act as a 'shock absorber' in the event of any sudden power surges, including from bush fires or lightning strikes. The battery will also be one of the largest in the southern hemisphere and the Australian Government has invested $100 million through the Clean Energy Finance Corporation to support its construction.
