The Net Zero Economy Authority (the Authority) Board held its seventh meeting virtually.
The Board reviewed the declared interests of members and confirmed there were no conflicts with matters under consideration at the meeting.
The CEO provided a year in review update to the Board on the Authority achievements against its 3 missions.
The Board discussed the Authority’s regional work, including current state of play and next steps for priority regions.
The Board also discussed the progress on the development of a First Nations Action Plan that will guide efforts to give effect to the Authority’s legislative function of supporting First Nations people to participate in, and benefit from, the net zero transition. The Board agreed to finalise the Action Plan early in 2026.
Following 12 months of operation of the Board, the Chair advised he has asked the Authority to engage an external provider to undertake a review of the Board operations in accordance with the Charter. The review will be provided to the Board in February 2026.
The Chair of Audit and Risk Committee provided an update, highlighting the approved adjustments to the
2025-26 Internal Audit Work Plan. The Board noted progress made in strengthening governance, risk, compliance and privacy measures.
The Board has approved revised governance documents as part of the Authority’s annual governance review. The revised documents approved included an updated Board Charter, Accountable Authority Instructions and Risk Management policy and framework. These documents will support clear accountability, strong compliance practice, and strengthened risk management as the Authority continues to mature.
The Board has also resolved to extend the terms of the Audit and Risk Committee members, recognising their important assurance role.
An update on the Authority’s Communications Strategy supporting strategic, coordinated and considered communications was presented to the Board. The Board noted the development of a range of education activities to improve understanding of the transition and potential career opportunities for young people in our priority regions.
The Chair updated the Board on the fourth meeting of the Stakeholder Panel, which he chaired on 5 November 2025.
The Board agreed it will next meet in February 2026 in Canberra
