The Australian Government’s Net Zero Plan (the Plan) sets out how Australia will reach 62-70% emissions reduction by 2035 and net zero emissions by 2050.

The Plan presents Australia’s pathway to achieving net zero emissions, outlining the national policy framework with 5 decarbonisation priorities supported by six sectoral plans to drive decarbonisation across the economy.

The Plan highlights the importance of stable institutions, including this Authority, to create policy certainty, boost investment and support workers and communities access opportunities through an orderly and positive economic transition.

The Authority is recognised as a delivery partner in the Plan in its key chapter highlighting the 5 decarbonisation priorities and features across investment, worker support, First Nations and community chapters.

The Authority helps workers from closing coal and gas-fired power stations prepare for and find new jobs, with support provided by their employers. The Authority is supporting regions most affected by the transition to prosper, including through economic development and investment. Our current focus regions are Central Queensland, Collie, The Hunter, Latrobe Valley, Pilbara and the Upper Spencer Gulf.

Since its legislated establishment in 2024, the Authority has been consulting on potential Energy Industry Jobs Plan decisions for the Torrens Island B power station and Eraring coal-fired power station, to hear directly from workers, businesses and local communities.

Through place-based partnerships the Authority will ensure that decarbonisation efforts are backed by practical support, targeted investment, and programs that help workers retrain, and regions attract new industries.
