Fair Work Commission determination establishes first Energy Industry Jobs Plan for Torrens Island B Power Station
The Net Zero Economy Authority welcomes the Fair Work Commission’s determination to formally establish the Energy Industry Jobs Plan (EIJP) for AGL’s employees at Torrens Island B Power Station.
The determination follows the Authority’s application on 14 October 2025 for the EIJP to support AGL’s employees affected by the station’s closure.
The Torrens Island B EIJP is the first of its kind and places a legislative framework on AGL to ensure its employees have access to practical support and advice to prepare for future employment. Under the EIJP, workers will be able to access support from their employer, which may include training, career and financial counselling, and paid time off or flexible arrangements to participate in these activities.
With the determination from the Fair Work Commission, AGL is now required to provide these transition supports to employees impacted by the Torrens Island B closure. The supports available are not prescriptive and can be tailored to reflect the needs and requirements of employers and their employees.
Authority CEO David Shankey said the determination provides certainty for workers at Torrens, demonstrating the importance of the EIJP to support workers facing transition.
“I welcome AGL’s efforts to date at the Torrens B site and look forward to working with them over the coming years to ensure workers receive the support and certainty needed to transition to new jobs.”

“This EIJP makes sure workers at Torrens can access independent advice, information, and tailored support as they plan for their next career step,” Mr Shankey said.
To complement these supports, the Authority will provide additional redeployment assistance closer to the power station’s closure date. This will include support from on-the-ground coordinators, a dedicated jobs board, and access to incentives for businesses that take on workers under the program.
An assessment of the Eraring Power Station is currently underway by the Authority to determine if an Energy Industry Jobs Plan should be applied to support affected workers through the transition.
