Connecting the wires with the Transmission Infrastructure Supplier Showcase

The Net Zero Economy Authority (NZEA) partnered with the Industry Capability Network (ICN) to power local industry connections for transmission infrastructure projects in the Hunter and Central Coast. This was done with collaboration from Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) and the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD).

ICN is an Australian not-for profit organisation connecting suppliers with major projects across the country. ICN works to ensure small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have full, fair and reasonable access to opportunities on major procurements and projects. 

As part of this partnership, ICN engaged with businesses across the regions, listening to their experiences and capacity to participate in major transmission infrastructure projects.

This engagement resulted in the development of a Transmission Infrastructure Supplier Showcase (the Showcase). The Showcase responds to feedback the NZEA received from local industry and stakeholders, calling for better opportunities to participate in transmission projects. 

The Showcase is a public-facing resource featuring local businesses with current or potential capability to work on transmission projects. Businesses in the Showcase are able to service the Hunter–Central Coast, Central-West Orana and New England Renewable Energy Zones (REZs).

A clearer picture of local capability

ICN mapped suppliers across key transmission categories, to better understand the regions’ industrial strengths and highlight any capability gaps. These categories include:

  • planning and site preparation
  • manufacturing, installation and maintenance of transmission towers
  • manufacturing, installation and maintenance of electrical balance of plant, including cabling, substations and transformers.

This approach helps provide a practical picture of where local capability already exists and where further development may be needed as investment grows and projects progress.

By developing the Showcase and making this information publicly available, NZEA is aiming to strengthen connections across industry and support increased participation.

EnergyCo and DPIRD were involved in the development and review of the Showcase as part of the project team.

Businesses can register for free at Gateway by ICN to be part of their online database to demonstrate their capabilities and connect with projects across the clean energy transition and the broader infrastructure pipeline.
