The Australian Renewable Energy Hub
AREH has been awarded Major Project Status by the Australian and Western Australian Governments. It is proposed that the project would be developed in phases over many years. Once complete, AREH could abate around 17 million tonnes of carbon per annum in domestic and export markets, which equates to roughly 0.5 gigatonnes over the lifetime of the project.
The facility will located in the East Pilbara, approximately 250 kilometres east of Port Hedland. The 6,500+ square kilometre development site is on the traditional lands of the Nyangumarta People.
The Australian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH) intends to deliver renewable power and green hydrogen to support decarbonisation of the Pilbara and beyond. The Project is a Joint Venture between project partners bp (63.57%), InterContinental Energy (26.39%) and CWP Global (10.04%). bp is the operator of AREH and has the potential to be one of the largest renewable energy hubs in the world.
