Alpha HPA first project
Alpha HPA (High Purity Alumina) has secured $400 million in new loans to deliver Australia’s first high-purity alumina processing facility in Gladstone, Queensland.
Currently under construction, the project will be one of the largest single-site HPA refineries globally, capable of producing over 10,000 tonnes of ultra-high-purity aluminium products and premium aluminium materials per year.
The Alpha HPA Precursor Production Facility uses a solvent extraction and refining technology to produce ultra-high purity aluminium materials in commercial quantities.
The first stage of the facility operates 24/7, runs on 100% renewable energy and has created 34 full time jobs in the local community with 40% of those occupied by women.
The company has recently awarded a $20 million contract for concrete works, marking an important milestone in the project's development. This facility represents a major advancement in Australia's capabilities in producing high-purity alumina, a critical material for LED lights, smartphone screens, and lithium-ion battery components.
The facility will position Australia as a key player in the global HPA market, with significant potential for export revenue and job creation in the Gladstone region.
